Think Like a Pro (part 3)

Daily Rituals: There are many stories, opinions and approaches to the daily practice routine. One great example of this is Alan Dawson's Rudimentary Ritual. (Do yourself a favour and google it if you haven't heard of this).

Personally, I am waking up early these days and getting 1 1/2 - 2 hours of practice done in the morning even before I have breakfast.
I practice from books such as Stick Control and Accents and Rebounds (again, google if you need to), but I have also devised many of my own exercises over the years which I have designed in order to achieve (or work on) different things.

This has been my daily 'warm up' routine for about the past 12 months and I do it because I want to, not because I have to. When you get into a routine of practicing every day, it becomes addictive for several reasons.
1) Because you begin to realise the results, which in turn are a great motivator for more improvement
2) As you practice, the repetitive nature of if will naturally lead you to start exploring other possibilities (e.g. variations) and you can begin to invent your own exercises
3) You start to miss it if you don't do it and will realise that each day with no practice = a missed opportunity to improve.

So do what works for you, but make the commitment to yourself that you will dedicate a decent amount of time to development every single day. You will benefit.

Groove on!
