Speed (part 3)

The effects of good practice habits are accumulative. Lots of solid work at slower and medium tempos lays the basis for the development of speed.

The secrets? At slow tempos concentrate on wrist movement and relaxation. Don't play with tension or stress. If you experience either, drop the tempo back a bit, master the pattern/rhythm that you are working on at a comfortable tempo, THEN Increase your speed.

As you increase your tempo, be sure to get lighter in your touch. As speed increases we develop the art of playing more with less effort through greater stick control.

Groove on!
